20th NEMO Annual Meeting

2-4 November 2012

Dublin, Ireland | National Gallery of Ireland

The 2012 annual meeting of NEMO, the Network of European Museum Organisations, is being held in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland, in cooperation with the Irish Museums Association.

At the National Gallery of Ireland, from 2nd to 4th November 2012, directors and other representatives from national museum organisations, cultural stakeholders, project partners and similar bodies from all over Europe will meet to discuss topics relevant to the European museums sector and to exchange ideas and experiences.

The NEMO Annual Meeting serves as a platform for national museum associations and other bodies dealing with museum matters to exchange their ideas and views on topics of concern and to forward these thoughts to European institutions and the 30,000 museums around Europe. NEMO is now expanding its membership and invites individuals, museums and networks to join them in Dublin.

The first day will be dedicated to the host country and will focus on the museum landscape, culture policies and projects in Ireland.

A special focus will be The Future of Museums, presenting different national initiatives focusing on the social, political and economical factors that museums impact on and how museums can continue to adapt and plan to maintain their relevance and increase their impact in the future. The topics aslo includes the presentation on the proposed EU framework programme “Creative Europe” and the opportunities it offers for museums and networks.

On Saturday, 3 November, NEMO will discuss an issue that museums are increasingly dealing with: deaccessioning of objects. How do different countries in Europe approach the topic, especially in times of crisis? What are the legal issues and how do museums deal with them?

In addition, NEMO will present projects and initiatives in Europe dedicated to older people – in line with the European Year 2012 of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations

Conference registration is open until 12 October 2012.
