Collective Memory, National Identity and Commemorations
6-7 June 2014
Utrecht, Netherlands | University Hall Utrecht
Collective memory is important for the creation of national bonds and a national identity. But which events are remembered and commemorated and why? And to what extent does participation in national commemorations indeed increase cohesion in societies? These, and other questions, will be explored during this two-day symposium. Experts from the Netherlands and abroad from multiple disciplines (history, humanities, social psychology and sociology) will reflect on these themes and present their work on this topic.
