The Art of Making the Difference

26 May 2014

Turin, Italy | Palazzo Barolo, Salone d'Onore

The International Conference is the closing event of the project The Art of Making the Difference - II Edition. The initiative involved young artists and outsider artists (subjects in situation of physical and or socio-psychological disadvantage) in a participatory process of relational art, preceded by a training course. Laura Biella, Gaetano Carusotto, Lia Cecchin, Corina Elena Cohal, Ernesto Leveque, Maya Quattropani worked in pairs to the realization of 3 co-authored artworks inspired by the heritage belonging to the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography at the University of Turin. Their appropriation and re-interpretation activated collaborative practices of artistic creation conceived as a process and instrument of cultural empowerment.

The project aims to reflect critically on artistic and social issues in an international perspective. Therefore the Conference hosts European and Italian good practices engaged in a dialogue and discussion about participatory and relational art, physical and cultural accessibility, promoting artists through processes of cultural mediation with a reflexive approach to the relationships between contemporary art and Outsider art. Beside the project actors who will present the participatory process and the outcomes achieved, researchers, artists, curators, and experts – coming from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, United States – will take part in the Conference. By virtue of their experience and expertise, they will bring an important and enriching contribution to the International Conference and its interdisciplinary dimension.
