Mariangela Orabona holds a PhD in “Cultural and Postcolonial Studies of the Anglophone World”. Her doctoral thesis represents a synthesis of her studies in the visual arts by critically examining African-American artworks in terms of the absence and erasure of the female body. She currently is working on race and representation, museum practices, collectivity and immaterial labour. She has written articles about the politics of representation of the female body in the visual arts.

Her main research interests concern visual aesthetics, postrepresentational theory, precarity, and new media art practices.

She is a research member of the MeLa* RF02 “Cultural Memory, Migrating Modernities and Museum Practices.”
