Politecnico di Milano is ranked as one of the most outstanding European universities in Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design; in many disciplines it is regarded as a worldwide leading research institution.

The Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) is the second largest Department at Politecnico di Milano; it’s one of the most important research structures in Italy for town and country planning.The activity of DAStU research group New Museography - Diffused museum & museal networks of Material Culture/Cultural Heritage - is mainly aimed at researching and developing theoretic and design proposals in order to investigate and improve the new and fruitful roles of the museum institutions. New Museography in 2007 has been evaluated as Excellent from an International Peer Review; it is the promoter of several events amongst which the biennial International Conference Interior Forum World.

The Department of Design focuses on research and education activities devoted to a critical-theoretical elaborations and an operational experimentations within the field of design sciences. The research unit DeCH (Design for Cultural Heritage) is aimed at design strategies and methodologies for the exploitation and the enhancement of Cultural Heritage, promoting awareness and knowledge, enabling accessibility and fruition, translating territorial resources in cultural offer, developing innovative recording systems and improving transmission and revitalisation of such Heritage supplying user centred design services, technologies and products.
